If you can do most of these things, consider yourself oriented!
I. Appearance
Basic
o Edit information in your avatar’s profile
o Use built-in tools to change body shape, hair style, colors, etc.
o Use built-in tools to design and save simple clothes
o Change clothing without making your avatar naked
o Save a default appearance or outfit
o Use gestures and animations to express yourself
Advanced
o Purchase clothing, skins, hair from vendors
o Wear and adjust prim items (always make an extra copy and note it as the original before adjusting!)
II. Communicate and connect with others
Basic
o Chat with nearby avatars
o Check out profiles of nearby avatars or use search function to find other avatars
o Initiate private IMs with friends or other avatars
o Use history to review IMs and other events
o Offer friendship to an online or offline avatar
o Find and join groups of interest
Intermediate/Advanced
o Offer teleport to online friends
o Use groups function to change your group title
o Use groups function to view previous notices for a group
III. Move
o Walk or fly around, using map to navigate if necessary
o Search for locations or find landmarks in inventory to teleport
o Follow red beacons after teleporting when landmark pin is red
o Use the world > create landmark here function to make your own landmarks
o Find a vehicle in your inventory and ride it around
IV. Snapshot
o Use the snapshot function to take a pictures of your avatar
V. Search
o Use the built-in search engine to search for people, groups, places, etc.
o Understand that the search function is not ideal!
VI. Mini map and map
o Understand the symbols on the mini map and map
o Use the maps to navigate when necessary
VII. Inventory, objects, and building
Basic
o Find different types of items in your inventory
o Use the library of items provided by Linden Lab
o Wear clothing, HUDs, and other attachments
o Rez objects into the world, and take them back into inventory
o Understand that objects in world are all made of basic primitive shapes (prims), linked together and textured
o Touch and right click to interact with them, understand different interfaces that may appear (keep/discard offered inventory, select from a list of links, etc.)
o Use the edit function to learn about items you encounter—who made them, how many prims they are, whether you can copy them.
o Take a copy of a copyable item
o Copy and rename objects in inventory
Intermediate/Advanced
o Rez a box purchased from a vendor, right click to open it, copy items to inventory
o Upload textures
o Build with a square prim to turn it into a flat rectangle, apply texture to turn it into a poster
o Incorporate and edit existing scripts to link to websites, provide notecards, and other functions
o Create fully 3D objects with original textures and scripts
